The process began with multiple readings of the script which led to historical research of elements of the time period that could manifest in our production. This stage also provided an opportunity to look into artists that were prominent during the time for inspiration.
Next, I began doing research on practicals such as the fireplace and the candles and chandeliers to brainstorm solutions to not having real flames on stage. From here, I worked on an order to order the supplies for the decided solution.
This is a scene by scene breakdown that labels what character is on stage during which scene, what the atmosphere of each scene is, and my initial ideas for lighting those scenes.
The next step was drafting the light plot. For this show I worked from a Rep Plot and made small adjustments as needed.
This is the Practicals plot, a separate plot provided to the master electrician that has the location and channel numbers of the practicals.
After finalizing the plot, I created a magic sheet for ease of cueing.
